Who's involved?

The Letter in the Attic project collected over 600 letters, diaries and other personal papers related to Brighton and Hove from 2007-2008. A team of volunteers is still working on the project.  Letter in the Attic was a collaboration between:

QueenSpark Books

A local not-for-profit community publisher specialising in local history and life stories. QueenSpark will create a book and an education pack based on some of the personal papers donated to Letter in the Attic.

East Sussex Records Office

The East Sussex Records Office is the official local archive for the geographical area of Brighton and Hove.  The Brighton and Hove archivist, Andrew Bennett, can look after your letters and diaries if you wish, or provide advice on taking care of them at home.

Mass Observation Archive

The Mass Observation Archive at the University of Sussex specialises in collecting personal papers. The Archive is providing advice to the Letter in the Attic project.

My Brighton and Hove

My Brighton and Hove is an award-winning local history website, which will create an online exhibition of some of the personal papers donated to Letter in the Attic.

The Letter in the Attic project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and is one of the projects supported by the National Archive's Archives for All initiative.
